Challenge accepted!

I recently traveled there with friends. We are still friends.

Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world. It is one of these unique places where you can experience rainforests, lakes, beaches all in one weekend. It is a raw beauty that comes with challenges.

I would take my partner to Fraser Island to see if, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for rain, for rainbows, we will be together till death does us apart.

Death may not be an immediate issue. This Island can be.

Expect Strong Winds Along The Coast

On most days, travelers experience strong winds on the coastal side of the island. In some extreme cases, wind speed can get to 120km/ph.

The wind keeps hitting us with a constant spray of sand. When we were on the east coast of the island, any off-the-car communication involves us either standing towards each other or against the wind.

I have lowered the volume for the wind soundtrack but the wind still sounds strong in the background. With the sights of trees being blown right to left, this tells you Fraser Island is more than just pretty white sandy beaches and crystal blue lakes.

Getting Flooded In the Creek

Problem-solving got put to test on Fraser Island.

Not many fresh relationships would have experienced getting bogged on the Island and lasted to tell the tale since it’s no piece of cake getting out of a situation like this one.

On this trip, this car drove into Eli Creek for a driving challenge. No luck of getting out after we came back from the walking track.

Camping in the rain

Weather is unpredictable on the island. The minute we started cooking, it started to rain.

We were holding umbrellas above each other while cutting carrots and heating up noodles. If only we are ever so productive and creative in cooking, we would have been on Masterchef.

I picked Waddy Point beachfront camp, one of the two campsites that offer amenities.

However, the campsite gate was locked at nighttime. We ended up camping outside the main areas, a few minutes’ from showers, firepits, and bathrooms. We played a game of good out of bad, and discover the starry night sky more beautiful than ever, and the dinner more delicious than ever.

Rainbows After The Rain

Despite all the challenges, I will always remember this trip fondly. It’s only after the rain, we see rainbows.

Fraser island, till next time I bring you my partner to the challenge.
